Design

All of the decisions that determine how a particular object, space, or building will be, is Design.

It can also be described as determination of form, where form means every aspect of every quality, including size, shape, material, structure, texture and color, that makes one particular physical reality different from any other.

An excellent design satisfies three essential criteria:
Function  :  it works well, serving the needs and requirements of its users.
Structure and material  :  it is well made of good, appropriate materials.
Aesthetics   :  it is aesthetically successful.

Design and Human Perception

Visual Perception   :   Visual perception is the ability to interpret information and surroundings from visible light reaching the eye.

Visual Impression  :  Visual Impression is the understanding of reality that comes along with vision and movement. For example a fire or bright sunlight is hot and warm and so we associate the colors red and orange with heat. The sturdy upright of a tree trunk relates naturally to a sense of solidity and stability.
All of these associations are reinforced by the kinetic impressions that we receive from our own bodily positions and movements.
