PRODUCTION OF HIGH QUALITY CEMENT
Taken from : Ambuja Technical  Literature Series - 40

INTRODUCTION
Cement in the general sense of the word can be described as a material with adhesive and cohesive properties which make it capable of binding mineral
fragments into a compact mass. It's remarkable property of setting, strength development, ease of handling, bond with reinforcement, mouldability and relative imperviousness has made it a favourite construction material.

HISTORY OF CEMENT MATERIALS
The use of cementing materials dates back to several thousand years. The Egyptian pyramids were constructed using calcined impure gypsum as a bonding
material between huge blocks of stone. Calcined limestone was extensively used by the Greeks and Romans. Historical structures like the Roman Pantheon and the Coliseum were built using these cementing materials. The Romans used volcanic (pozzolanic) deposits which were finely ground and blended with lime and sand to yield cementing mortar.
This mortar not only possessed strength but was also capable of resisting the action of water and weathering effects to a remarkable degree.
