ARCHITECTURAL CLIMATOLOGY
Architecture is all about
ART and TECHNOLOGY. It includes public services, water supply and drainage, air conditioning, ventilation, lighting, etc. it is the basic science a designer is concerned about.
It involves majorly on:- climatic elements how they are behaving on us, how to be benefited by these climatic elements, how to protect ourselves from the adverse effect of climatic elements
The major steps in architectural climatology are:-
climatology-study of climatic elements
biology-study of human comfort level with respect to climatology technology-creating of built environment architecture
-the combination of the above and the final product

The weather of a place represents the state of the atmospheric environment over a brief period
of time. Integrated weather condition over several years is generally referred to as climate or more
specifically, as the ‘macro-climate’.
The information helps a designer to build a house that filters out
adverse climatic effects, while simultaneously allowing those that are beneficial. The built-form and arrangement of openings of a building
can be suitably derived from this analysis.

Bioclimatic chart by V olgyay shows the combination of temperature (on vertical scale ) and Relative humidity (horizontal Scale) which are comfortable
Oglyay’s chart has a constant comfort in the range from 20 to 30 degree C. The level of comfort is applicable to indoor spaces with the indoor level of clothing. The comfort zone is shown at the center of Olgyay’s chart. The chart takes into consideration levels of comfort that can be felt outside the comfort zone but in combination with ranges of other climatic factors such as mean radiant temperature, wind speed and solar radiation. Above the lower boundary of the zone shading is necessary to maintain reasonable level of comfort.
Another more popular bioclimatic chart is that of Givoni This chart is based on the linear relationship between the temperature amplitude and vapor pressure of the outdoor air. Givoni’s chart identifies the suitable cooling technique based on the outdoor climatic condition. Five zones are identified on Givoni’s chart: thermal comfort, natural ventilation, high mass, high mass with night ventilation and evaporative cooling.
