There are two types of bonding agents are available for joining old to new concrete joint
1. Latex bonding agents
Modified Styrene butadiene (SBR) latex rubber emulsion which is supplied as a ready to use white liquid. It is designed to improve the qualities of site-batched cementitious mortars and slurries. Being resistant to hydrolysis, it is ideal for internal and external applications in conjunction with cement for example Fosroc Nitobond SBR , Dr. Fixit Super Latex etc.
2. Epoxy Bonding Agents
Various epoxy products are available for the bonding of freshly placed concrete to cured concrete and of concrete to steel. Most products contain resins that are 100% solids
for example Dr. Fixit Epoxy Bonding Agent , Fosroc Nitobond EP Std etc.

According to Garbacz the adhesion in the repair system depends on the surface roughness of the concrete substrate, the presence of micro-cracks and
the properties of the materials to be used for the repair.
Advantages of latex based bonding agents are
- White liquid mixed in cement mortar can be easily applied by brush.
- Useful as a bonding agent between old and new concrete surfaces.
- Useful as waterproofing coat in Toilets,Terraces, Perapets etc
- Excellent as a cement modifier.
- Repair mortar, SBR suitable for repairing of RCC members.
