Parti pris is the main concept of a design. It is the starting idea and basically the reason that explains why architect chose such design.
Parti pris refers to the guiding idea or intent behind a project.
A parti pris is an organizing thought or decision behind an architect's design, presented in the form of a basic diagram or a simple statement.
A parti pris to refer to an overall intent in combination with an organisational strategy.
As such, a parti pris typically has less to do with technical, financial and utilitarian issues and more to do with view, massing, scale, transparency, opaqueness and other architectural issues.
It may be shortened to "parti". The term comes from 15th century French, in which "parti pris" meant "decision taken." Later, it took on the meaning of "bias" or "prejudice".
In design, parti refers to the major decision about the overall configuration of a building. It doesn't matter if that decision is made a priori or is the result of a long process of study and elimination. It's still a parti. As in the case of ordering principles, many partis are geometric organizations. We can understand this by analysis of works of great architects
