Aurangabad has a number of Buddhist caves in its vicinity, all of which belong to the Vakataka period except Cave 4, which is of the time of the Satavahanas, the second century A.D. 
Cave I , with its ruined and lost portico, has a veranda with eight beautiful pillars.
