Swamped by sewage
Three hours from Delhi can take one to Aligarh and decades down history lane. Sadly, Aligarh is today a grotesque caricature of its glorious past. Known mainly as a seat of learning - Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is based there - the town has grown, but only in population, which has put the civic infrastructure under tremendous pressure - housing, sanitation, health care are insufficient in the town. Aligarhrs economy, based on the lock industry, thrives on child labour and pollution holds the town in its vice-like grip...
