महाबलीपुरम
Three major styles of architecture at mahabalipuram are:
(1) that of the time of Mahendravarman I महेंद्र वर्मन (600-630), a contemporary of Pulakesin and Harsha and a great polymath, poet, engineer, artist, and musician
(2) that of the time of his son Narasimhavarman नरसिंह वर्मन,(630-668) also a contemporary of Pulakrsin and Hnrsha, who defeated and reduced the power of the western Chalukyas and with his navy restored his friend Manavarman to his throne in Ceylon
(3) that of the time of Rajasimha राजसिंह (Narasimhavarman II नरसिंह वर्मन ), whose cultured queen Rangapataka helped him in his architectural and sculptural endeavors. There is also a minor phase represented here by the work of Nandivarman(717-719),who also built the Vaikunthaperumal temple at Kanchipuram.
