Gender-based violence still occurs more commonly than one likes to believe. Women are abandoned
by their husbands with ease and haste, and unwed/single mothers are stigmatised in society. Many of these victimised women find a solution by ending their lives and the lives of their children. Women in distress need a safe haven, where they can live without fear of their abusers and society. Further rehabilitation is only possible once they are able to live in peace. Ashraya's long-term goal is to help
destitute women make better lives for themselves, and help them steer clear of areas that would endanger them such as prostitution. 'SUDHA', Ashraya's Training cum Convention Centre has been set up as part of this initiative.
