" The desian would have been much more appreciated by the viewer, if they were given the opportunity to experience the dhows from all aspects.

Along the banks of Chaliyar River in Kozhikode was the Sultan Pattanam, the Beypore of today, the port of which was thronged with exquisitely
crafted wooden ships called Uru or Dhows. Those were not mere ships, but handcrafted wooden chariots that rode through the storms
carrying the black gold to distant shores. From Egyptian queens to British East India Company the traditional Urus were the vessels of the
trade from Kerala for millenniums. But today the picture of Beypore port filled wit  urus could only be seen in historical records. Uru is the traditional shipbuilding culture of Kerala prevalent along its northern coast. As the glory of Beypore port declined along with the advent of technology and the breaking of trade relations, the demand for the traditional urus has fallen drastically. Despite the possibilities in  the tourism and industrial sector, the Uru making industry is neglected from the mainstream.
The thesis aims to exalt the inherited heritage and revitalize the traditional shipbuilding culture of Uru in Beypore by promoting its social, cultural,
ecological, and economic sustainability through an integrated architectural solution- A Living Museumn and Adept Academy of Dhows. The
project comes under mixed-use typology and the deliverables include Open exhibition space, Museum, and Crafts gallery, Dhow shipyard.
Experiential dock museum, Dhow building academy, and Guests' cottage of which each of the building and spaces has its significant role
in resurrecting and spreading awareness about the value Uru shipbuilding culture. The Temple of Dhows is an architectural solution to make
the largest handicraft of the world not a part of history but to elevate the Urus as an invaluable asset of the future.
