The Ajanta Caves are a series of rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments located in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, India. They are considered to be one of the greatest surviving examples of ancient Indian rock-cut architecture and are considered one of India's greatest cultural treasures. The caves were created between the 2nd century BCE and the 6th century CE and are renowned for their stunning frescoes, intricate carvings, and sculptures.

The Ajanta Caves are comprised of 30 rock-cut caves, of which only 26 have survived to this day. The caves are carved into a horseshoe-shaped cliff face and are set in a beautiful, serene environment surrounded by lush greenery. The interior of the caves is adorned with richly detailed frescoes and intricate carvings, many of which depict scenes from the life of the Buddha, Buddhist mythology, and Jataka tales.

The Ajanta Caves are considered to be one of the finest examples of ancient Indian art and architecture and are a testament to the skill and creativity of the artists and craftsmen who created them. They are a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art, architecture, and India's rich cultural heritage, and are considered one of the most important Buddhist monuments in the world. The Ajanta Caves were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
