Delhi Master Plan
The Master Plan Delhi was published in 1961 and was planned for a population of 6.0 million in 1981. The plan divided the city into eight Planning Divisions which were proposed to be self contained in terms of employment, residential areas, shopping and other requirements. A hierarchy of residential units with a Housing Cluster at the lower end of the hierarchy and a district around a District Center comprising of commercial establishments, community facilities hospital, college , post office and district part etc., at the upper end. It also adopted some elements of the Howards Garden City concept by proposing Urban Delhi as the core of Delhi Metropolitan Area.
