Climate change is a global problem, warming atmospheric temperatures have accelerated glacier melting and caused thermal expansion in oceans, disrupting precipitation, patterns
resulting in rise in sea level. As the baseline of water increases, storms are more likely to lead to floods, posing disruptive and unpredictable threats to both natural and man-made systems. With the increase in population and development activity, there has been a bent to occupy the floodplains, that has resulted in harm of a lot
of serious nature over the years. Often, due to varied downfall distribution, areas which are not traditionally prone to floods also experience
severe inundation.
Flooding is a known problem for the coastal belt of Konkan. In th is context, the estuarine part on coastal belt of Sindhudurg district, increases t hreat towards floods withrise in sea-level paralleled to Global issue. The livelihood on this sensitive part s, with lack of flood awareness and adaptability, cannot cope with the heavy rainfall events. Besides, these uneven precipitations cause physical, ecological, and economic losses. Thus the estuarine remote part of Sindhudurg district requires a holistic adaptation plan and strategies in order to face current problems and resist future challenges.
This project is restricted to the coastal part of Maharashtra.
