Faculty of Planning and Architecture, Poornima University , Jaipur

What is decibel, and what does it measure: wavelength, amplitude , loudness or  frequency ?

Decibel (dB) is a unit that measures the intensity or loudness of sound, which is directly related to the amplitude of the wave.
Example:
  • Whisper: 30 dB
  • Normal conversation: 60 dB
  • Rock concert: 120 dB
A higher decibel level means a louder sound.
