The word ECOLOGY is taken from the Greek word "oikos" which means "home" or "house" or "household" something like that and "logos" which means knowledge. Ecology, therefore, literally means. the study of the household.
Definition of Ecology
Ecology is thus the study of animals and plants in relation to their habits and habitats (Elton, 1927). This indicates. the interdependence of both man and his habitation on the local environment and have the life styles in growing societies and modernizing economies affects the environment.
