TRANSFORMATIONS OF THE FRINGE VILLAGES
The villages beyond the limits of a rapidly developing /growing city undergo a process of change that ultimately results in their complete absorption within the physical city. The process of change of the fringe villages may be viewed from two opposite sides:
That of the people in the main city and
That of the people of the village.
Complex Pattern of Transition in R-U Fringe:
The changes taking place in the fringe villages have 2 fundamental aspects:
Changes in land uses within the village (which includes the village settlement as well as the surrounding land which forms part of the revenue village) and
Changes in the social and economic life styles of the original people of the village.
The mechanism of change in both cases involves interaction between the city and the village
