Spatial Cognition and User Preferences:A New Vision for Planning Practices in India

The focus of this paper is on developing understanding of user preferences and framing principles of urbanism through the study of relationship between spatial configuration and spatial cognition.

In Indian context, linear spaces are more important as social spaces than convex spaces and hence axial line modeling is found to be an appropriate method to
analyze Indian built environments in terms of configuration.

It can help to understand user preferences about use of spaces in a built environment and to make planning practices in India much more context specific.
