An Introduction to the Policy Process
Thomas A. Birkland

An Introduction to the Policy Process describes how policy is shaped by social, institutional, political, economic, and other contexts. Much of this description is
orthodox in political science; the discussion of the branches of government, of the Constitution, of the various groups and institutions, and the like, is similar to that
found in introductory American politics textbooks. The difference is that I am interested in how groups, institutions, and structures work to solve problems through
making public policies. And, in keeping with the interdisciplinary nature of policy studies, this book owes a debt to sociology, history, economics, public administration,
and other disciplines.
