Jury Comments
• The structure is based on second hand economy. Waste is not waste; it is a wealth and should be capitalized innovatively.
• Public participation is a major element towards waste management.
• The expression of Waste in architecture, requires in depth ana lysis of waste material.
We are always protesting against the government for improper waste management of waste disposal, but humans are actually the ones who generate it and neglect it after consumpt ion.
Humans, depend on various resources to satisfy needs, and in return after consuming them what is generated is waste which directly goes to the dumping grounds without giving them a second Life.
Though every urban city has an incineration plant but still waste collection in dumping grounds is still increasing.
Delhi: Ghazipur landfill, 70acres, ht-65m. Mumbai: Deonar landfill, 60 acres. Pune: Oevachi Uruli Landfill: 43 acres.
The thesis is divided into two parts.
Part 1- addresses the reason for plugging in a non -biodegradable seg regation plant and public involvement space which will benefit in reducing waste.
Part 2- addresses the envelope of the building which is made from waste materials by using the pallet of reuse, recycle and upcycle materials.
Reuse material: Timcrete brick (made from waste sawdust and concrete), ferrock brick (made from steel dust and concrete), flyash brick, terra cotta waste replaces virgin aggregate, waste debris as filling materials in plinth, waste dry leaves, coconut shells and rubber tires, etc.
Recycle material: Plastic bricks, tensile fabric made from recycled polyester, Styrofoam made from thermocol waste for insulation, roofing sheet made from recycled plastic and recycled polycarbonate sheet, tension cables-made from
recycled po lyester etc.
Upcycle material: Fenestration, railing made from metal Laser cutting waste, waste from scrap centre or wooden crates, Use of preengineered building system for stanchions and beams, etc .
Taken from : ARCHIVING ARCHITECTURAL THESIS 2020 - "Awards for Excellence in Architectural Thesis" the annual program conducted by the Council of Architecture through its academic unit Council of Architecture Training and Research Centre (COA TRC) completed its eleventh cycle in 2016.
