Jury Comments
  • The overall space is well made with tree canopies to sit, sunken courts to integrate the exterior to interior and techniques to provide light in the basement.
  • The trees canopies give a subtle shade at a higher elevat ion, softening the whole space.
  • The project is a comment on the existing condition of most metropolitan cities in india.

This project situates itself in the Silicon City of Bengaluru. The city when created was envisioned as a market place enclosed by a fort with a large network of lakes and vegetat ive
spaces/forest s. The city even grew on to bag titles like the" garden city of India". The city has grown and developed exponentially in the past few years. While this development has brought with it significant progress and infrastruct ure, the development is slowly turning into destruction.
The project is a sati re in architecture. The project takes fo rm of a park to remind us of the memories of the garden city of Bangalore. The idea is to redefine the typology of a park in a highly urban setting. It takes form of an "urban park" t hat not only takes us back to the city's past and its memories of the "garden city" but also accommodates the cit y's present and its people. The project being a sat ire makes use of architecture to mock at, comment on and realize the reality. The project takes a dig at the existing utility of t he flyover.
The urban park is situated right amidst the chaotic Hebbal flyover which is infamous for its  hour-long traffic jams. The park unfolds itselfas a series of ramps and pathways  mimicking the flyove r, but the difference being - you can get across this one without waiting for hours in a traffic jam. This thesis therefore addresses architecture in the form of a narrative and not solely a built form. It tells a story to t hose accessing the amenities in t he park, or to those simply traversing across t he park as a thoroughfare or to even those watching from the flyover above as t hey wait in traffic. Visible from all levels and located at a highly act ive and important junction in the core of the city, it becomes a perfect spot to make a comment and address the issue. The project being a satire has been explored through a series of collages, memes, comics and illustrates the architecture
as a narrative in space and time (the past , the present and the future)

Taken from : ARCHIVING ARCHITECTURAL THESIS 2020 - "Awards for Excellence in Architectural Thesis" the annual program conducted by the Council of Architecture through its academic unit Council of Architecture Training and Research Centre (COA TRC) completed its eleventh cycle in 2016.
