• While working on sensitive issues, it is important to pinpoint the issue while discussing solutions.
• Detailed program has to be mentioned as to how to bring the civilians and military people together.
• Space for civilians and military is hypothetical, as a military base is a secured zone.
Kashmir is a highly militarized zone in india, from 1989 s militant insurgency to 2019's scrapping of A370 a large portion of indian army resides here for maintaining order in the valley. This presence of military, check posts and restricted areas have on ly led to worse civil-military relations and protests. The research undertaken in this project examines the geopolitical crisis of Kashmir and explores the role of architecture in observing the current situation. This project provides a platform for Indian Army to carry
out these operations like operation sadbhavna for the civilians. Carefully studying operation sadbhavna a program was developed which included activities such as providing free
education, women and youth empowerment classes, skill development training, physical training, health and san itization. The site selected is in Badami Bagh cantonment area, a
hotspot of military establishment in the city of Srinagar .
An attempt is made to break the social stigma associated with the military in Kashmir by converting a part of military land into a public space and allowing civilians as a symbolic gesture by the army for cooperation, collaboration and coexistence. The proposal follows a sustainable approach by following traditional construction techniques like 'Burza pash' and 'Dhajji-d iwari'. While these traditional gardens represented a place of self-contemplation and leisure, the new contemporary paradigm must represent conflict and compromise, collaboration and co-existence, cu lture and trade. A new contemporary paradigm must narrate a story of compassion to its posterity.
In conclusion, the underpinning idea behind the project is that the ground level interaction of civ ilians and military personnel in their daily lives will help in better understanding of each other's lives and will lead to a healthy relationship.
