The SWM Rules, 2016 defines segregation as sorting and separate storage of various components of solid waste namely •biodegradable wastes including agriculture and dairy waste, •non biodegradable wastes including recyclable waste, •non- recyclable combustible waste, •sanitary waste and non recyclable inert waste, •domestic hazardous wastes •construction and demolition wastes.
At a minimum level, indicated as the basic segregation,.
waste should be segregated by waste generators into three fractions:
1.wet (green container),
2.dry (white container),
3.domestic hazardous waste.
This is referred to as the three-bin system
