Plate 7 : Plinth from the Tomb of Nizamuddin, Delhi.

Plinth of Tomb of Nizamuddin ( Nizamuddin Dargah ) , Delhi. Nizamuddin lived A.D. 1233-1334. He was a noted Muhammadan saint; his tomb is about 5 miles from modern Delhi, in a small village of this name, in which is a collection of burial places and small mosques. It is of white marble, surrounded by a colonnade, the arches of which are richly carved, and is surmounted by a dome. The body of the saint lies in a marble sarcophagus enclosed with a pierced marble screen. The sanctify of the shrine still attracts pilgrims from all parts of India. The work shewn in this plate is probably of the 18th century. See Plate 9, figs. 1 and 2; and Plate 10, figs. 3 and 4.
