Coping from the Diwan-i-Khas in the Red Fort, Delhi.

The Diwan-i- Khas, or Hall of Special Audience, was a large marble pavilion in the Lal Kila or Red Fort at Delhi. It is one of the most highly ornamented of all of Shah Jahan’s buildings; he ruled A.D. 1628-1658. See Plate 14, fig. 2.

The Diwan-i Khas consists of an inner hall enveloped by a gallery. 21.03 meters wide and 27.4 meters deep, the spaces of the pavilion are defined solely by archways; its flat roof is carried on cusped arches falling on rectangular and square piers. The dados of the piers are ornamented with pietra dura, while the tops of the piers and the arches are decorated with paint and gold. The original ceiling was of silver, inlaid with gold.

Coping From the Sawan-Bhadon Pavilions in the Red Fort , Delhi

Sawan-Bhadon Pavilions are two marble pavilions in the centre of the northern and southern sides of the garden. Sawan and bhadon सावन भादों are two principal months of the rainy season, either because they represent those months or were used during those months. The northern one is provided with a tank with niches for candles in its sides, so that the water cascading over them would create a picturesque effect.
