उद्भव की कहानी

खण्डेलवाल जैन समाज समस्त दिगम्बर जैन समाज का एक प्रमुख अंग है। समाज की उतना ही इस समाज ने अपने उद्भव काल से लेकर आज तक धर्म, संस्कृति एंव अभूतपूर्व सेवा की है इसलिए इस समाज का जितना प्रतीत उज्ज्वल है वर्तमान शानदार है।

Introduction

The Khandelwal Jain community is a significant sect of the Digambar Jain tradition, known for its profound contributions to religion, culture, and social service since its inception. This community has played a pivotal role in the propagation of Jainism, earning a distinguished reputation for its religious zeal and societal impact.

भौगोलिक उपस्थिति

उत्तर भारत मे खण्डेलवाल जैन समाज का सभी क्षेत्रो में पूरा वर्चस्व रहा है। उसके लाडले सपूत समाज की सभी गतिविधियो में भाग लेते रहे हैं और उसी गौरव को आज भी बनाये हुये है।

खण्डेलवाल जैन समाज राजस्थान, मालवा, आसाम, बिहार, बंगाल, नागालैंड, मणीपुर, उत्तरप्रदेश के कुछ जिलो एवं महाराष्ट्र में बहुसंख्यक समाज रहा है और आज भी बम्बई, कलकत्ता, जयपुर, इन्दौर, अजमेर जैसे नगर उसके केन्द्र माने जाते हैं जहाँ खण्डेलवाल जैन समाज बहुसंख्यक समाज है।

Geographical Presence

The Khandelwal Jains are primarily found in:

• Rajasthan (especially Jaipur, Sanganer, and Shekhawati regions)
• Malwa
• Assam, Bihar, Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur
• Parts of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh

Major urban centers such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Indore, and Ajmer are considered hubs of this community.

धार्मिक और सामाजिक योगदान

इस समाज में अनेक आचार्य, मुनि, भट्टारक, क्षुल्लक, ब्रह्मचारी हुये जिन्होने देश एवं समाज को प्रभावशाली मार्ग- दर्शन दिया। सैकडो हजारो मन्दिरो के निर्माणकर्ता, प्रतिष्ठाकारक, मूर्ति प्रतिष्ठा कराने वालो को उत्पन्न करने का इसी समाज को श्रेय है। इसी समाज में पचासो दीवान अथवा प्रमुख राज्य संचालक, उच्च पदस्थ राज्याधिकारी हुये जिन्होने सैकड़ों वर्षों तक जयपुर राज्य की अभूतपूर्व सेवा की एवं युद्ध भूमि में विजय प्राप्त की। राजस्थान के सैकड़ों मन्दिर इसी समाज के द्वारा निर्मित है। अकेले जयपुर नगर में 200 से अधिक मन्दिरो का निर्माण इस समाज की धार्मिक निष्ठा के प्रतीक है । सांगानेर, मोजमाबाद, टोडारायसिंह, लाडनू, सुजानगढ़, सीकर के मन्दिरो के उन्नत शिखरों की शोभा देखते ही बनती है।

इस समाज की धार्मिक आस्था तथा व्रत उपवास, पूजा एवं भक्ति आदि कार्यों में रुचि से सारा दिगम्बर जैन समाज अनुप्राणित है। उसके प्रत्येक रीति- रिवाजों में श्रमण सस्कृंति की झलक दिखाई देती है तथा उसका प्रत्येक सदस्य जैन धर्म के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में अपने आपको प्रस्तुत करता है। सारे देश में फैले हुए खण्डेलवाल जैन समाज संख्या की दृष्टि से भी उल्लेखनीय है जो दस लाख के कि करीब है अर्थात् पूरे दिगम्बर जैन समाज का पांचवा हिस्सा है।

   • The community produced numerous ministers, administrators, and state officials who served in Jaipur State and other regions for centuries.

खंडेलवाल समुदाय की उत्पत्ति

खण्डेलवाल जाति का नामकरण खण्डेला नगर के कारण हुआ। खण्डेला नगर राजस्थान के सीकर जिले में स्थित है जो सीकर में 45 कि० मी० दूर है। खण्डेला के इतिहास की अभी पूरी खोज नहीं हो सकी है लेकिन श्री हर्ष की पहाडी पर जो जैन अवशेष मिलते है उससे पता चलता है शैव पशुपतो का केन्द्र बनने के पहिले यह खण्डेला नगर इसका पुराना नाम खडिल्लकपत्तन अथवा खण्डेलगिरि था। भगवान महावीर के 10वे गणधर मेदार्य ने खण्डिल्लकपत्तन में आकर कठोर तपस्या की थी ऐसा उल्लेख आचार्य जयसेन ने अपने ग्रन्थ धर्मरत्नाकर की प्रशस्ति मे किया है आचार्य जयसेन ।। थी शताब्दी के महान् सन्त थे अमृनचन्द्र एव सोमदेव बाद के आचार्य थे । जैनो का प्रमुम्ब केन्द्र था।

श्रीवर्धमाननाथस्य मेवायों दशमोऽजनि । गरणभृद्दशधा धर्मो यो मूर्ती वा व्यवस्थितः ।। मेदायेंण महषिभिर्भावहरता, तेपे तपो बुश्चर । श्रीख डिल्लकपत्तनान्ति करणाभ्यद्धिप्रभावात्तदा ।। 1 ।।

खण्डेला का पूरा क्षेत्र ही अत्यधिक प्राचीन क्षेत्र रहा है। यहां पर ईसा पूर्व तीसरी शताब्दी का जो लेख मिला है उसमे लिखा है कि मूला द्वारा किस व्यक्ति की विषेले तीर मे हत्या हुई थी जिसका स्मारक उसी के एक शिष्य महीस द्वारा स्थापित किया था ।

Origins of the Khandelwal Community

The name “Khandelwal” originates from the ancient city of Khandela in Rajasthan’s Sikar district, located 45 km from Sikar.

• Historical Significance of Khandela:
  • Previously known as Khadillakapattan or Khandelagiri, this city was a Jain spiritual hub before becoming a center for Shaivite Pasupatas.
  • According to Acharya Jayasen’s “Dharmaratnakar,” one of Lord Mahavir’s 10 Ganadharas, Medarya, performed penance in Khandela.
• Ancient Jain Relics:
  • The Harsh Mountain near Khandela contains Jain artifacts suggesting a Jain presence before the city’s transition to Shaivism.
• Etymology:
  • The term “Khandelwal” reflects the community’s association with Khandela.

खण्डेला का इतिहास

खण्डेला का राजनैतिक इतिहाम अधिकाश रूप में तो अन्धकारपूर्ण है। प्रारम्भ में यहाँ निर्वाण चौहान राजाओं का राज्य रहा। हम्मीर महाकाव्य में भी खण्डेला का नामोल्लेख हुआा है। महाराणा कुम्भा ने भी खण्डेला पर अपनी विशाल सेना को लेकर आक्रमण किया था तथा नगर की खूब लूट-खसोट की थी। सन् 1467 में यहाँ उदयकरण का शामन था ऐसा वर्धमान चरित की प्रशस्ति में उल्लेख मिलता है ।

रायसल खण्डेला के प्रसिद्ध शासक रहे तथा जो अपने मन्त्री देवीदास के परामर्श में मुगल सेना में भर्ती हुये और अपनी वीरता एवं स्वामी भक्ति के सहारे मुगल बादशाह अकबर के कृपा पात्र बन गये और खण्डेला एवं अन्य नगरो की जागीरी प्राप्त की। वे बराबर आगे बढ़ते रहे। रायसल जी के समय में ही खंडेला चौहानों के हाथो में से निकल कर शेखावतो के हाथो मे आया ।

हुंबड या हूमड दिगम्बर जैन जाति

यह जाति भी उन चौरासी जातियो मे से एक है। यह जाति विनयसेन आचार्य के शिष्य कुमारसेन द्वारा सवत् 800 के अनुमानतः बागड देश में स्थापिन की गई थी। यह जानि सम्पन्न और वैभवशालिनी रही है।

The Humbad (Humad) community is one of the 84 Jain castes, established around 800 CE in the Bagad region by Kumarsen, a disciple of Acharya Vinaysen. Over centuries, this community has maintained a reputation for its wealth, influence, and religious devotion.

ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि

इस जाति का निवाम स्थान गुजरात, बम्बई प्रान्त और बागड प्रान्त मे रहा है। यह दस्सा और बीसा दो भागो में बटी हुई है।

Historical Background

• Origins: The community originated in Bagad Pradesh, with prominent settlements in Gujarat, Bombay Province, and Bagad.
• Subdivisions: The Humbad community is divided into two groups: Dassa and Bisa .

सांस्कृतिक और धार्मिक योगदान

इस जाति में उत्पन्न श्रावक अनेक राज्य मन्त्री और कोषाध्यक्ष आदि सम्माननीय पदो पर प्रतिष्ठित रहे है। इनके द्वारा निर्मित अनेक मन्दिर और मूर्तियां पाई जाती है। ग्रन्थ निर्माण में मी यह प्रेरक रहे है। इनके द्वारा लिखाये हुये ग्रन्थ अनेक शास्त्र भण्डारो में उपलब्ध होते है। वर्तमान में भी वे समृद्ध देखे जाते है। इसके अतिरिक्त इस जाति के द्वारा निर्मित मन्दिरो मे मबसे प्राचीन मन्दिर झालरापाटन मे शान्तिनाथ स्वामी का है। जिसकी प्रतिष्ठा हूमडवंशी शाह पीपा ने वि० स० 1103 में करवाई थी। इम जाति में अनेक विद्वान भट्टारक मी हुये है ।

मट्टारक सकलकीति और ब्रह्मजिनदास इसी जाति के भूषण थे, जिनकी परम्परा 2-3 सो वर्षों तक चली।

   • The oldest known temple attributed to the Humbad community is the Shantinath Swami temple in Jhalrapatan, consecrated by Humbadvanshi Shah Peepa in 1103 CE.

4. Notable Bhattarakas:
   • Several prominent Jain Bhattarakas (monastic scholars) emerged from this community, including Sakalkeerti and Brahmajindas, whose spiritual lineage continued for 200–300 years.

इनमे 18 गौत्र प्रचलित है। खैरजू, कमलेश्वर, काकड़ेश्वर, उत्तरेश्वर, मन्त्रेश्वर, भीमेश्वर, भद्रेश्वर, गगेश्वर, विश्वेश्वर, संखेश्वर, आम्बेश्वर, वाचनेश्वर, सोमेश्वर, राजियानी, ललितेश्वर, काश्वेश्वर, बुद्धेश्वर और सधेश्वर ।

इस जाति मे जैन धर्म परम्परा का बराबर पालन होता रहा है। वर्तमान में हूमड समाज की जनसंख्या 2-3 लाख होगी । बम्बई, उदयपुर, डूगरपुर, प्रतापगढ़, सागवाड़ा जैसे नगर इस समाज के प्रमुख केन्द्र है ।

Current Status

• Population: The community today is estimated to have a population of 2–3 lakhs.
• Prominent Centers: Major centers include Mumbai, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, and Sagwara.

लमेचू दिगम्बर जैन जाति

यह मी 84 जातियो में एक जाति है जो मूति लेखो और ग्रंथ प्रशस्तियो में “लम्व कंचुकान्वय” के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है। मूति लेखो में लम्बकंचुकान्वय के साथ यदुवंशी लिखा हुआ मिलता है। जिसमे यह एक क्षत्रीय जाति ज्ञात होती है।

The Lamechu Jain community is one of the 84 Jain castes, historically known in inscriptions and literary records as the “Lambakanchukanvaya.” In many inscriptions, this community is also described as “Yaduvanshi,” indicating its origins as a Kshatriya lineage.

ऐतिहासिक उत्पत्ति

इस जाति का विकास किसी लम्बकाचन नामक नगर से हुआ जान पडता है। इसमे खरिया, रावत, ककौआ घौर पचोले गोत्रो का भी उल्लेख मिलता है। इस जाति में अनेक प्रतिष्ठिन और परोपकारी पुरुष हुये हैं। जिन्होने जिन मन्दिरो और मूत्रियो का निर्माण कराया है, अनेक प्रथ लिखवाये है। इनमे बुढने और लमूचू ये दो भेद पाये जाते हैं, जो प्राचीन नही है। बाबू कामताप्रसाद जी ने “प्रतिमा लेख मग्रह” में लिखा है कि “बुढेने लंबेचू अथवा लम्बकंचुक जाति का एक गोत्र था, किन्तु किमी सामाजिक अनबन के कारण सं. 1590 और 1670 के मध्य किसी समय यह पृथक् ज.ति बन गई ।” बुढेले जाति के साथ रावत संघई आदि गोत्रो का उल्लेख मिलता है। इसमे प्रकट है कि इस गोत्र के साथ अन्य लोग भी लबेचुओ से अलग होकर एक अन्य जाति बनाकर बैठ गये। इन जातियों के इतिवृत्त के लिये अन्वेषणा की आवश्यकता है।

Historical Origin

The community is believed to have originated from a place called Lambakanchan. Over time, this lineage evolved into a distinct Jain caste.

• Several gotras are associated with this community, such as Kharia, Rawat, Kakaua, Ghor, and Pachole.
• The Lamechu community is further divided into two subgroups: Budhne and Lamechu. This division is relatively recent and is believed to have occurred between 1590 CE and 1670 CE, as noted by Babu Kamataprasad in his work “Pratima Lekh Sangrah.”

The division between these groups likely stemmed from social discord, leading to the formation of separate identities. The Budhne subgroup includes additional gotras like Rawat and Sanghai.

ऐतिहासिक योगदान

चन्द्रवाट के चौहान वशी राजा आहवमन के राज्य काल में लबकचुक कुल के मणि साहू सेठ के द्वितीय पुत्र जो मल्हादेवी की कुक्षी से जन्मे थे, बड़े बुद्धिमान घोर राजनीति में दक्ष थे। इनका नाम कण्ह या कृष्णादित्य था, आहवमल प्रधानमंत्री थे । जो बडे धर्मात्मा थे। उनकी धर्मपत्नी का नाम “सुलक्षणा” या जो उदार धर्मात्मा पतिमक्त और रूपवती थी। इनके दो पुत्र थे। हरिदेव और द्विजराज । इन्ही कण्ह की प्रार्थना से कवि लक्ष्मण ने वि. स. 1313 में अणुवयम रयम-पईव नाम का ग्रन्थ बनाया था।

कवि धनपाल ने अपने “बाहुबलि चरित” की प्रशस्ति में चन्द्रवाड में चौहानवशी राजा अभयचन्द्र के और उनके पुत्र जयचन्द के राज्यकाल में लम्बकचुक वंश के साहू सोमदेव मन्त्री पद पर प्रतिष्ठित थे और उनके द्वितीय पुत्र रामचन्द्र के समय सोमदेव के पुत्र वासाधर राज्य के मन्त्री थे, जो सम्यकत्वी जिन चरणों के भक्त, जैन धर्म के पालन में तत्पर, दयालु, मिथ्यात्व रहित, बहुलोक मित्र और शुद्ध चित्त के घारक थे। इनके आठ पुत्र थे। जसपाल, रतपाल, चन्द्रपाल, विहराज, पुष्पपाल, बाहडु भौर रूपदेव । ये भ्राठो ही पुत्र अपने पिता के समान धर्मज्ञ और सुयोग्य थे । भ० प्रभाचन्द्र ने सम्वत् 1454 में वासाघर की प्रेरणा से बाहुबलि चरित की रचना की थी।

Notable Historical Figures

1. Kanha (Krishnaditya):
   • Served as the Prime Minister in the court of Raja Ahavman, a Chauhan ruler of Chandrawad.
   • Renowned for his intelligence, political acumen, and devotion to Jainism.
   • His wife, Sulkshana, was equally pious and virtuous.
   • Their sons, Haridev and Dwijraj, carried forward the family’s legacy.
   • At Kanha’s request, poet Lakshman composed the Jain work “Anuvayam Rayam-Paiyav” in 1313 CE.
2. Sahu Somdev:
   • A minister during the reign of Raja Abhaychand of Chandrawad and later under his son, Raja Jaichand.
   • His family was known for their devotion to Jainism and their significant contributions to the religion.
   • Vasadhar, Somdev’s son, became a minister and was instrumental in supporting Jain scholars and temple construction.
3. Poet Prabhachandra:
   • Composed “Bahubali Charit” in 1454 CE under the inspiration of Vasadhar.

इन्होने चन्द्रवाड़ मे एक मन्दिर बनवाया और उसकी प्रतिष्ठा की थी। इन सब उल्लेखो से स्पष्ट है कि लम्बकंचुक आम्नायी भी अच्छे सम्पन्न और राज मान्य रहे है।

ओसवाल दिगम्बर जैन जाति

ओसवाल दिगम्बर समाज की मी एक जाति रही है। ओसवाल जाति का उद्गम स्थान ओसिया से माना जाता है। ओसवालों में दिगम्बर एवं श्वेताम्बर दोनो ही धर्मो को मानने बाले पाये जाते हैं।

The Oswal Jain community is one of the significant sects within the Jain tradition, with branches adhering to both Digambar and Shwetambar faiths. The origin of the Oswal community is traditionally traced back to Osia, a town in Rajasthan.

इतिहास और प्रवासन

मुलतान से आये हुये मुलतानी ओसवालों में अधिकांश दिगम्बर धर्म को मानने वाले हैं। मुलतानी ओसवाल वर्तमान समय में जयपुर एब दिल्ली में बसे हुये है जिनकी घरो की संख्या करीब 400 होगी। ऐसा लगता है कि ओसिया से जब ओसवाल जाति देश के विभिन्न भागों में कमाने-खाने के लिये निकली तथा पजाब की घोर बसने के लिये आगे बढ़ी तो उसमें दिगम्बर धर्मानुयायी मी थे। उनमे से अधिकांश मुलतान डेरागाजी खान लैद्या एवं उत्तरी पंजाब के भन्य नगरों में बस गये और वही व्यापार करने लगे।

History and Migration

The Oswals, as they ventured out from Osia for trade and livelihood, spread across different regions of India. Among these, a significant subgroup migrated to Punjab and other northern regions, where many adopted Digambar Jainism.

• Multani Oswals are a prominent subsect of the Digambar Oswals, who settled in areas like Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, and northern Punjab.
• Today, Multani Oswals primarily reside in cities such as Jaipur and Delhi, with an estimated 400 households.

The presence of Digambar Oswals in Punjab and other northern areas indicates that the community carried its religious practices and values wherever they settled.

धार्मिक एवं सांस्कृतिक पहचान

ओसवाल दिगम्बर समाज अत्यधिक समृद्ध एव धर्म के प्रति दृढ़ भास्था वाली जाति है ।

दिगम्बर जैन ओसवाल जाति मे वर्धमान नवलखा, अमोलका बाई, लुहिन्दामल, दौलतराम औसवाल जैसे अनेक विद्वान एवं श्रेष्ठीगण हुये है।

Religious and Cultural Identity

The Oswal Digambar Jain community is known for its:

• Economic prosperity: Members often engaged in trade and became affluent.
• Strong faith in Jainism: The community is deeply rooted in Jain principles and practices, with a significant number maintaining adherence to Digambar traditions.

Prominent figures like Vardhaman Navlakha, Amolka Bai, Luhindamal, and Daulataram Oswal have contributed to the intellectual and spiritual legacy of the community.

नरसिंहपुरा दिगम्बर जैन जाति

नरसिंहपुरा जाति के प्रमुख केन्द्र हैं राजस्थान में मेवाड़ एवं बागड़ा प्रदेश । बैसे इस जाति की उत्पत्ति मी मेवाड प्रदेश का नरसिंहपुरा नगर से मानी जाती है ।

The Narsinghpura Jain community is a prominent Digambar Jain sect, primarily centered in Mewar and Bagar regions of Rajasthan. The origin of this community is attributed to Narsinghpura Nagar, located in the Mewar region.

ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि और उत्पत्ति

इसी नगर में भाहड श्रावक सेठ रहते थे जो श्रावक धर्म पालन करते थे। भट्टारक रामसेन ने सभी क्षत्रियो को जैनागम में दीक्षित किया तथा नरसिंहपुरा जाति का का उद्‌द्मव किया। ( Ref. तत्प‌ट्टमउने दक्षो, ज्ञान-विज्ञान-भूषितः । रामसेनोऽति विदितः प्रतिबोधन पंडितः । स्थापिता येन सज्जाति नगरसिहाभिधा भूवि ।।)

Historical Background and Origin

The community traces its roots to 102 CE, when the city of Narsinghpura was a hub for Jainism. The Jain Shravak Bhadra Seth and other followers resided here, observing Jain principles.

• Bhattarak Ram Sen, a revered Jain spiritual leader, played a pivotal role in initiating this community. He guided the local Kshatriyas to adopt Jain Agamas and formalized the establishment of the Narsinghpura Jain community.

This origin is substantiated by references in Jain texts:
“Tatpatmamune Daksho, Jnana-Vijnana-Bhushitah. Ram Seno’ti Viditah Pratibodhan Panditah. Sthapita Yena Sajjati Nagar Singhabhidha Bhumi.”

सामुदायिक संरचना एवं गोत्र

इस जाति की उत्पत्ति संवत् 102 में मानी जाती है तथा यह जाति के 27 गोत्रों में विभाजित है।

Community Structure and Gotras

• The Narsinghpura community is divided into 27 gotras.
• It also included a subgroup called the Singhpura Jain community, which merged with the Narsinghpura sect in 1404 CE.

भट्टारक सीट और नेतृत्व

प्रतापगढ़ में नरसिंहपुरा जाति के भट्टारकों की गादी थी। भट्टारक रामसेन के पश्चात् बिजयसेन, यशःकीर्ति, उदयसेन, त्रिभुवनकीर्ति, रत्नभूषण, जयकीर्ति आदि भट्टारक हुये। ये सभी भट्टारक तपस्वी एवं साहित्य प्रेमी थे। प्रदेश में बिहार करते हुये ममाज में धार्मिक क्रियाओ को सम्पादित कराया करते थे। काष्ठासंघ नदीतट गच्छ विद्यागण नरसिंहपुरा लघु शाखा आम्नाय में सूरत आदि के भट्टारकों की सख्या 110 मानी जाती है। अन्तिम भट्टारक यशः कीर्ति थे। यह जाति मी दस्सा बीसा उप जानियो में विभक्त है। सिंहपुरा जाति भी एक दिगम्बर जाति थी जो सवत् 1404 में नरसिंहपुरा जाति में विलीन हो गई। ( Ref. माणिकचन्द ग्रन्थ, पृष्ठ संख्या 55)

Bhattarak Seat and Leadership

The Bhattarak seat of Narsinghpura Jains was established in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, and flourished under several learned Bhattarakas, including:

• Bhattarak Ram Sen (founder)
• Vijay Sen
• Yashah Kirti
• Uday Sen
• Tribhuvan Kirti
• Ratnabhushan
• Jay Kirti

These Bhattarakas were not only spiritual leaders but also scholars who actively promoted Jain literature and religious activities. They frequently traveled across regions, organizing religious ceremonies and nurturing the spiritual life of the community.

In the Kashtha Sangh Naditata Gachchha Vidyagan tradition, the Narsinghpura branch is recognized as a minor sub-sect with historical ties to Surat and surrounding regions. It is noted that there were 110 Bhattarakas associated with this lineage, with Yashah Kirti being the last.

Cultural and Religious Significance

The Narsinghpura Jain community has a rich cultural legacy. It contributed significantly to the spread of Digambar Jain values and practices in the Mewar and Bagar regions. The merging of smaller sects like the Singhpura Jains into the Narsinghpura community further strengthened its base and influence.

Current Status

Today, the community remains a testament to its historical and spiritual contributions, albeit with a reduced presence compared to its early prominence. Its historical records and achievements are preserved in texts like “Manikchand Granth” (page 55).
