नरसिंहपुरा दिगम्बर जैन जाति
नरसिंहपुरा जाति के प्रमुख केन्द्र हैं राजस्थान में मेवाड़ एवं बागड़ा प्रदेश । बैसे इस जाति की उत्पत्ति मी मेवाड प्रदेश का नरसिंहपुरा नगर से मानी जाती है ।
The Narsinghpura Jain community is a prominent Digambar Jain sect, primarily centered in Mewar and Bagar regions of Rajasthan. The origin of this community is attributed to Narsinghpura Nagar, located in the Mewar region.
ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि और उत्पत्ति
इसी नगर में भाहड श्रावक सेठ रहते थे जो श्रावक धर्म पालन करते थे। भट्टारक रामसेन ने सभी क्षत्रियो को जैनागम में दीक्षित किया तथा नरसिंहपुरा जाति का का उद्द्मव किया। ( Ref. तत्पट्टमउने दक्षो, ज्ञान-विज्ञान-भूषितः । रामसेनोऽति विदितः प्रतिबोधन पंडितः । स्थापिता येन सज्जाति नगरसिहाभिधा भूवि ।।)
Historical Background and Origin
The community traces its roots to 102 CE, when the city of Narsinghpura was a hub for Jainism. The Jain Shravak Bhadra Seth and other followers resided here, observing Jain principles.
- Bhattarak Ram Sen, a revered Jain spiritual leader, played a pivotal role in initiating this community. He guided the local Kshatriyas to adopt Jain Agamas and formalized the establishment of the Narsinghpura Jain community.
This origin is substantiated by references in Jain texts:
“Tatpatmamune Daksho, Jnana-Vijnana-Bhushitah. Ram Seno’ti Viditah Pratibodhan Panditah. Sthapita Yena Sajjati Nagar Singhabhidha Bhumi.”
सामुदायिक संरचना एवं गोत्र
इस जाति की उत्पत्ति संवत् 102 में मानी जाती है तथा यह जाति के 27 गोत्रों में विभाजित है।
Community Structure and Gotras
- The Narsinghpura community is divided into 27 gotras.
- It also included a subgroup called the Singhpura Jain community, which merged with the Narsinghpura sect in 1404 CE.
भट्टारक सीट और नेतृत्व
प्रतापगढ़ में नरसिंहपुरा जाति के भट्टारकों की गादी थी। भट्टारक रामसेन के पश्चात् बिजयसेन, यशःकीर्ति, उदयसेन, त्रिभुवनकीर्ति, रत्नभूषण, जयकीर्ति आदि भट्टारक हुये। ये सभी भट्टारक तपस्वी एवं साहित्य प्रेमी थे। प्रदेश में बिहार करते हुये ममाज में धार्मिक क्रियाओ को सम्पादित कराया करते थे। काष्ठासंघ नदीतट गच्छ विद्यागण नरसिंहपुरा लघु शाखा आम्नाय में सूरत आदि के भट्टारकों की सख्या 110 मानी जाती है। अन्तिम भट्टारक यशः कीर्ति थे। यह जाति मी दस्सा बीसा उप जानियो में विभक्त है। सिंहपुरा जाति भी एक दिगम्बर जाति थी जो सवत् 1404 में नरसिंहपुरा जाति में विलीन हो गई। ( Ref. माणिकचन्द ग्रन्थ, पृष्ठ संख्या 55)
Bhattarak Seat and Leadership
The Bhattarak seat of Narsinghpura Jains was established in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, and flourished under several learned Bhattarakas, including:
- Bhattarak Ram Sen (founder)
- Vijay Sen
- Yashah Kirti
- Uday Sen
- Tribhuvan Kirti
- Ratnabhushan
- Jay Kirti
These Bhattarakas were not only spiritual leaders but also scholars who actively promoted Jain literature and religious activities. They frequently traveled across regions, organizing religious ceremonies and nurturing the spiritual life of the community.
In the Kashtha Sangh Naditata Gachchha Vidyagan tradition, the Narsinghpura branch is recognized as a minor sub-sect with historical ties to Surat and surrounding regions. It is noted that there were 110 Bhattarakas associated with this lineage, with Yashah Kirti being the last.
Cultural and Religious Significance
The Narsinghpura Jain community has a rich cultural legacy. It contributed significantly to the spread of Digambar Jain values and practices in the Mewar and Bagar regions. The merging of smaller sects like the Singhpura Jains into the Narsinghpura community further strengthened its base and influence.
Current Status
Today, the community remains a testament to its historical and spiritual contributions, albeit with a reduced presence compared to its early prominence. Its historical records and achievements are preserved in texts like “Manikchand Granth” (page 55).
