In Samvat 606, Bharij Papadiwal organized a grand Panch Kalyanak Pratishtha in Ladnun. Later, in Samvat 616, he arranged another similar event in the same town. By Samvat 792, during the reign of Anangpal Tanwar in Delhi, Papadiwal gotriya individuals, known as Girgars, were among his key ministers. When the Chauhans rose to power, prominent Papadiwal figures like Sawaldas Papadiwal and Mothraj Papadiwal were appointed as Diwans (chief ministers) under their rule.
Contributions During the Delhi Sultanate
During the reign of Sultan Qutb-ud-din Aibak, Chado Shah and Nado Shah, both from the Papadiwal gotra, were appointed as royal mint officials (Taksali). At one point, the Sultan challenged both Digambar and Shwetambar Jains to undertake a significant deed that would immortalize their names. The two brothers decided to lead a pilgrimage (sangh) to Girnar.
When they asked their mother how they could ensure their legacy, she advised them to use their wealth as mint officials to create a golden flag (Swarn Dhwaja) and offer it at Girnar. For six months, they employed goldsmiths to craft a seven-sided golden flag, which they then hoisted at Girnar. From that moment onward, only Digambar Jains were allowed to place their flags there, marking a significant historical event.
During the reign of Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq, Chada and Gujar, both Papadiwals, were the chief ministers (Amatyas). They invited the Jain Acharya Bhattarak Prabhachandra to Delhi, where he engaged in a scholarly debate (Shastrarth) with Ragho Chetan and emerged victorious. This event greatly influenced both Firoz Shah and his queen. According to Jain historical accounts, Bhattarak Prabhachandra, upon the community’s request, wore a langoti (loincloth) to grant an audience to the queen. This incident is detailed in Pandit Bakhtaram’s Buddhi Vilas.
A verse describes their influence: “Dilli ke pati Pairaj Sah, Chanda Gujar pradhan tahi,
Do bhaiya Papadiwal, tinke chitt upji rasal.”
