जयपुर के प्राचीन परकोटे वाले क्षेत्र में स्थित दिगम्बर जैन मंदिर ठोलियान एक ऐतिहासिक एवं कलात्मक जैन मंदिर है। यह मंदिर चौकड़ी घाट दरवाजा क्षेत्र में घी वालों के रास्ते में स्थित है और शहर के प्रमुख दिगम्बर जैन तीर्थस्थलों में से एक माना जाता है।

In the heart of the old walled city of Jaipur lies the revered Tholiyan Digambar Jain Temple, located in Ghee Walon Ka Rasta in Chaukrī Ghat darwaja . This temple is one of the important historic Jain temples of the city and is known for its artistic architecture, rare idols, and a remarkable collection of ancient manuscripts.

मंदिर का इतिहास

इस मंदिर का निर्माण कब और किसके द्वारा कराया गया, इसका स्पष्ट उल्लेख उपलब्ध नहीं है। किन्तु मंदिर की सीढ़ियों के ऊपर स्थित कलात्मक छत्री के संबंध में यह उल्लेख मिलता है कि उसका निर्माण विक्रम संवत् 1826 में हुआ था।
इस आधार पर यह माना जाता है कि मंदिर का निर्माण संवत् 1826 से भी पहले हो चुका था, जिससे इसकी प्राचीनता का अनुमान लगाया जा सकता है।

Historical Background

The exact date and patron of the temple’s construction are not recorded in historical documents. However, an inscription mentions that the beautifully crafted chhatri (canopy) above the temple staircase was constructed in Vikram Samvat 1826. Based on this reference, it is believed that the temple itself existed before VS 1826, indicating its considerable antiquity.

मूलनायक भगवान और प्रतिमाएँ

मंदिर में मूलनायक के रूप में भगवान शांतिनाथ की श्वेत पाषाण की प्रतिमा विराजमान है, जिसकी प्रतिष्ठा विक्रम संवत् 1861 में हुई थी।

मूल वेदी के चारों ओर 16 वेदियाँ निर्मित हैं, जिनमें कुल—

• 227 प्रतिमाएँ
• 83 यंत्र

विराजमान हैं।

इन प्रतिमाओं में कुछ विशेष आकर्षक प्रतिमाएँ भी हैं, जैसे—

• विल्लौर (स्फटिक) की चार प्रतिमाएँ
  • तीन प्रतिमाएँ लगभग 10 से 15 इंच की
  • एक छोटी प्रतिमा लगभग 4 इंच की
• हरे मरगज की एक प्रतिमा
• मोतिया लाल पाषाण की दो विशाल प्रतिमाएँ
• देवी पद्मावती की पाषाण की सुन्दर प्रतिमा

मंदिर में स्थापित प्रमुख यंत्रों में—

• घटाकरण यंत्र
• गणधरवलय यंत्र
• धर्मचक्र यंत्र
• कर्मप्रकृति यंत्र
• सत्तरसय यंत्र
• सर्पविषहरण यंत्र

विशेष उल्लेखनीय हैं।

Main Deity and Idols

The Moolnayak (principal deity) of the temple is Lord Shantinath, whose white stone idol was installed in Vikram Samvat 1861.

Surrounding the main altar are 16 additional vedis (shrines) that together house:

• 227 idols
• 83 sacred yantras

Among the idols, several are particularly noteworthy:

• Four crystal (Sphatik) idols – three measuring about 10–15 inches and one small 4-inch idol
• One emerald-colored idol
• Two large red stone idols
• A beautiful stone idol of Goddess Padmavati

The temple also preserves several sacred yantras, including:

• Ghatakaran Yantra
• Gandharvalaya Yantra
• Dharmachakra Yantra
• Karmaprakriti Yantra
• Sattarasaya Yantra
• Sarpa-Vishharan Yantra

These yantras are considered spiritually significant in Jain ritual traditions.

प्राचीन हस्तलिखित ग्रंथों का भंडार

मंदिर में एक विशाल शास्त्र भंडार भी है, जो जैन साहित्य की दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। इसमें—

• 512 हस्तलिखित ग्रंथ
• 143 गुटके

संरक्षित हैं।

इनमें से लगभग 200 ग्रंथ 200 वर्ष से अधिक पुराने हैं।
सबसे प्राचीन ग्रंथ विक्रम संवत् 1416 में लिखित द्रव्यसंग्रह पर ब्रह्मदेव कृत टीका की प्रति है।

एक विशेष गुटके में—

• 475 पूजाएँ
• 47 मंडलों के सुंदर रंगीन चित्र

भी अंकित हैं। ग्रंथों के सुंदर कलात्मक आवरण (पुढ़े) भी बने हुए हैं। पूरा शास्त्र भंडार सुव्यवस्थित है तथा इसकी सूची ग्रंथ सूची भाग-3 में प्रकाशित हो चुकी है।

Rare Manuscript Library

One of the most valuable treasures of the temple is its Shastra Bhandar (manuscript library).

The collection includes:

• 512 manuscripts
• 143 small scripture booklets (Gutkas)

Nearly 200 manuscripts are over 200 years old. The oldest manuscript in the collection is a copy of Dravya Sangraha with Brahmadev’s commentary, written in Vikram Samvat 1416.

A particularly fascinating manuscript contains:

• 475 ritual prayers
• 47 mandalas illustrated with beautiful colored paintings

Many manuscripts are preserved with ornate artistic covers, and the entire library is well catalogued. Its catalogue has already been published in Granth-Suchi, Part 3.

मंदिर की स्थापत्य कला

मंदिर विशाल और कलात्मक शैली में निर्मित है तथा मुख्यतः संगमरमर से बना हुआ है।

इसके प्रमुख स्थापत्य तत्वों में—

• बाहरी चौक में बने कमरे, जहाँ महावीर स्कूल का नगर विभाग संचालित होता है।
• चौक से सीढ़ियाँ चढ़कर मंदिर में प्रवेश।
• चौक के तिबारों की दीवारों में कलात्मक खिड़कियाँ, जिनमें स्वाध्याय के ग्रंथ रखने की व्यवस्था है।
• प्रवेश द्वारों पर बारीक नक्काशी का उत्कृष्ट नमूना।
• संगमरमर की मुडेरें (parapets) जिन पर बेल-बूटों की सुंदर कारीगरी।
• नीचे लटकती हुई संगमरमर की लटूरियाँ।

इस अद्भुत स्थापत्य सौंदर्य की रक्षा के लिए चौक पर दूछत्ता (कवर छत) भी बनाया गया है।

Temple Architecture

The temple structure is large and artistically built, primarily using marble.

Key architectural features include:

• A courtyard with rooms around it, where the city branch of Mahavir School operates.
• Visitors enter the temple by ascending stairs from the outer courtyard.
• The tibaras (verandah walls) contain beautifully designed marble niches used to place religious scriptures for study.
• The entrance arches and frames display fine stone craftsmanship.
• The marble parapets are carved with floral motifs, with decorative hanging marble elements below them.

To protect this architectural beauty from weather damage, a roof covering over the courtyard has been constructed.

धर्मशाला और सामाजिक योगदान

मंदिर के सामने पूर्व दिशा में एक धर्मशाला स्थित है। इसे भव्य स्वरूप देने में सेठ बनजोलालजी ठोलिया तथा उनके वंशजों का महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा है।

वर्तमान में इसका संचालन सेठ बनजीलालजी ठोलिया चैरिटेबल ट्रस्ट द्वारा किया जा रहा है।

Administration and Religious Activities

The temple belongs to the Bees Panth tradition and is managed by a registered elected management committee.

This committee also oversees two other temples:

• Ladiji Jain Temple
• Tholiyan Jain Temple in Sanganer

धार्मिक प्रवचन परंपरा

पिछले लगभग चार दशकों से विद्वान प्रवचनकार पंडित मिलापचंद शास्त्री द्वारा भाद्रपद मास में यहाँ नियमित प्रवचन आयोजित किए जाते हैं। इन प्रवचनों में सैकड़ों श्रद्धालु उपस्थित होकर धर्मलाभ प्राप्त करते हैं।

For the past four decades, the respected scholar Pt. Milapchand Shastri has been delivering religious discourses during the month of Bhadrapad, attended by hundreds of devotees who gather to listen and gain spiritual knowledge.

परंपरा और प्रशासन

यह मंदिर बीस पंथ आम्नाय का है और इसकी व्यवस्था पंजीकृत विधानानुसार चुनी हुई प्रबंध समिति द्वारा संचालित की जाती है।

इस समिति के अधीन दो अन्य मंदिर भी आते हैं—

• लाडीजी जैन मंदिर
• ठोलियों का जैन मंदिर (सांगानेर)

Dharamshala and Community Support

Facing the temple on the eastern side is a dharamshala (pilgrim rest house). Its development into a grand facility was largely supported by Seth Banjilal Tholia and his descendants.

At present, the dharamshala is managed by the Seth Banjilal Tholia Charitable Trust.

दिगम्बर जैन मंदिर ठोलियान केवल एक पूजा स्थल ही नहीं, बल्कि जैन धर्म की प्राचीन परंपरा, कला, शास्त्र और संस्कृति का एक महत्वपूर्ण केंद्र है।

The Tholiyan Digambar Jain Temple stands not only as a place of worship but also as a center of heritage, art, and Jain scholarship. Its rare manuscripts, sacred idols, and intricate marble architecture make it one of the hidden cultural treasures of Jaipur’s historic Jain tradition.
