English translation of Ādi purāṇa parv 4- Shlok 112 to 121
In that city, many ponds are adorned like women, as clean water is their clothing, blue lotuses are their ear ornaments, lotuses are their faces, and beautifully blooming water lilies are their eyes.” (112)
“In that city, there is no person who is ignorant, no woman who is devoid of virtue, no house that is without a garden, and no garden that is without fruits.” (113)
“In that city, there are no festivals that are held without the worship of the Jin (the Tirthankaras), and there is no death of a person that is without the ritual of renunciation.” (114)
“In that city, there are rice fields that continuously remain beautiful, which, without being sown or tilled, ripen on time and give abundant fruit to the people, like virtue bestowing great rewards.” (115)
“In the gardens of that city, there are many small trees (plants) that have not yet gained full stability and firmness. Others carefully protect them and, like children, nourish them with water and milk.” (116)
“The markets of that city are as splendid as an ocean, for in them, like the ocean, sounds continuously arise, jewels shine just like in the ocean, and just as water creatures move around in the ocean, people move around in the markets.” (117)
।118-119।। “In that city, blooming or wilting (lack of growth) is found only in the lotuses, not in the people. Timidity is only present in women, not in the men of the city. The lack of firmness, such as in the lips, does not exist in the people of the city; they do not possess any degradation or dishonor. The dullness, such as in swords, is found only in the weapons, not in the people, who do not have cruelty or brutality. The request for a bride and special marriage rituals only occur during weddings, not in daily life. The people do not beg for alms or collect taxes or get chained for crimes. Wilted flowers are found only in garlands, but the people of that city do not exhibit gloom, indifference, or lack of vigor. Binding with ropes is something that happens only with elephants, not with people; they are free from the bonds of chains or imprisonment.” (118-119)
“The gardens of that city are just like brides and grooms, for they are extremely beloved by all. Just as people eagerly look at the bride and groom, the gardens are also eagerly observed by the people. Just as the bride and groom are beautiful in their youth, the gardens are equally beautiful with their mature birds. Just as the bride and groom are adorned with floral garlands, the gardens too are adorned with blooming flowers. And just as the bride and groom are marked by arrows or equipped with bows and arrows, the gardens are filled with trees of the arrow species.” (120)
“Thus, that city of Alka, renowned for its grandeur and inhabited by virtuous Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and people of various other castes, is adorned like the royal crown of the mountain-shaped king, with a circular and excellent-colored mark.” (121)
