“Those hellish beings who indulged in illicit relations in their past lives are approached by other hellish beings who deceitfully say, ‘Your beloved is calling you to a secluded grove of ketaki flowers, longing for your embrace.’ They are then led to a grove filled with sharp, thorn-like ketaki leaves and forced to embrace burning iron statues.” (48-49)

“During the embrace of those iron statues, the hellish beings, whose eyes have shut from intense pain and whose bodies are burning like embers, immediately collapse to the ground.” (51)
Summary of Shlokas 42–51 from Ādi Purāṇa (Parva 10):

Key Themes:
- Karmic Retribution: The torments described are direct consequences of specific sinful actions committed in past lives, such as violence, meat-eating, and illicit relations.
- Vivid Imagery: The descriptions of hell are graphic and emphasize the severity of suffering, serving as a deterrent against immoral behavior.
- Cycle of Suffering: The beings endure repeated cycles of torment, with their bodies being destroyed and reassembled, only to suffer again.
These verses underscore the Jain principles of non-violence (ahimsa), truthfulness, and ethical conduct, warning against the dire consequences of violating these principles.
